Temporary Construction Site Connectivity

Construction WiFi

The Challenge

Client Requirements

At an existing construction site, HZI were moving from fully serviced offices to a complex of cabins located within a compound, which was not supplied by a fixed line. Over a five-month period they needed the assurance of connectivity and bandwidth for up to 100 users across the 14 cabins, for online meetings, email and SaaS tools. HZI also required two isolated networks for their team and for any onsite sub-contractors that required access.

Foreseen Challenges

With 100 users all working on cloud-based solutions, the forecasted bandwidth requirements were high. A 4G or 5G connection would potential not support this level of throughput for the volume of users. Providing access to all 14 cabins on site, from a central hardware hub, required a well-designed solution so that users in all cabins would get optimal connectivity.

The Solution

Solution Proposed

Fli-Fi’s construction connect service incorporated 4G, 5G and Satellite for this requirement, to gain optimal bandwidth to the site. 14 managed wireless access points, one in each cabin, were installed and connected by Cat6 cabling to the main internet presence.

Installation Process

The hardware was pre-staged before it went to site, to reduce on-site installation time and minimise disruption to the client. Pre-installation also included sign off on our RAMS coupled with our skilled engineers completing the right induction process for site. The installation process was carried out by one of our specialist network engineers that had passed site induction processes before attending site. With full PPE and following RAMS processes, installation was completed within the allocated time, with full end to end testing carried out before handover.

Support Given

All of Fli-Fi’s hardware deployed onsite is remotely monitored and support, with the ability to manage the network from our mission control. Outside of the monitoring, we provided working hours telephone and email support throughout the week as an inclusive part of the hire.

The solution was implemented and tested 1 week prior to the office move, to ensure a seamless changeover day. On day 1, all 100 of their users were able to work as usual on their systems within their temporary cabins.
"We’re delighted with the outcome for HZI. The ability to help the HZI team work at 100% productivity was always our core objective. Making this happen inside 14 metal cabins (one of your worst enemies when it comes to connectivity) is even more satisfying. We enjoy a challenge, and this one was certainly a good one!"
